Tuesday’s Quotes – February 9, 2015 -Politics

“The major problem—one of the major problems, for there are several—one of the many major problems with governing people is that of whom you get to do it; or rather of who manages to get people to let them do it to them.
To summarize: it is a well-known fact that those people who must want to rule people are, ipso facto, those least suited to do it.
To summarize the summary: anyone who is capable of getting themselves made President should on no account be allowed to do the job.”
― Douglas Adams, The Restaurant at the End of the Universe

It’s primary day in New Hampshire!

  1. Sad but true – people never really want to hear the truth. But it does seem that the level of hyperbole and venom these days harkens us back to a time long before the internet. The problem now if that we are too sound-bite oriented & seem to have no interest in actually thinking things through. But I keep plugging along anyway…

  2. It seems to me that if any Politician got up on his/her platform, and was brutally honest about what they could realistically do….. they would get minimal votes. Nobody wants to hear about increased taxes. Everybody wants improved health and welfare systems. Based on that premise, we have to accept that the successful candidate has had to make a number of questionable promises, some of which may be implemented (with compromises) but many will never see the light of day. If we take this logic a little further, we must accept that our elected officials are neither honest or transparent with us. Why then are we surprised, disappointed, apathetic …. when they perform with the same lack of integrity that they displayed when campaigning? Perhaps the problem is us… not them???
