Tuesday’s Quotes – January 10, 2017

“Every now and then a man’s mind is stretched by a new idea or sensation, and never shrinks back to its former dimensions.”  — Oliver Wendell Holmes, Sr.

Always keep learning. Always keep exposing yourself to new ideas and new things – you certainly shouldn’t accept them all as equally valid – but you should understand them before you dismiss them. We should challenge ourselves. We should challenge the status quo.

If we can’t accept challenges to our beliefs, then those beliefs are not real. If every challenge is seen as a threat, then it is the force of our convictions that are lacking, not those of the challenger. We only change, grow, and deepen our own understanding by facing challenges – not by shooting the challengers, or bombing them, not by outlawing the challenges, or by writing laws forcing others to adhere to our beliefs, not by name calling and disparagement of those that disagree. This applies not just to our religious beliefs, but to everything that we believe. All of the time.
